Saudi TV Debate

The subtitles go quickly at some points, but I appreciated the intelligent and specific arguments of this Islamic woman.

It is not often that dissenting views are expressed so well in this context and it is interesting to think of the implications. Taken to an extreme, Islam may be headed toward some sort of reformation. I find myself thinking about what a resulting religion would look like decades down the road.

Extremely interesting. Reminds me of a conversation I had recently. Hopefully we'll have a run in again sometime!

Thanks for posting that, Dave. It's nice that she can express her views in that context. She nailed so many issues very effectively in a short period of time.

As I read the subtitles, I thought, wow, the arguments she makes sound like arguments that have been made each time someone of a particular social grouping has had to speak for their status as human beings, equally qualified to receive the respect that others expect. Then I thought, you go girl.
Regarding her comments about Saudi society being brainwashed as a result of the constant memorization without interpretation that occurs (with the accompanying implicit restriction on questioning and free thought) - I agree and I think that it's not just in Islam, or Saudi society, it's everywhere; you can sense a similar idea with the "multiculturalism" issue amongst other Canadian ideals.
Last, it's good that you are able to think to yourself and wonder what post reformation Islam will look like.
This was somehow refreshing to read and watch, I hope she (and other female t.v. broadcasters are safe)
Thanks for sharing . Sorry for the long comment

Bex – Run in? With Saudi women? Well then, I hope to see you sometime too.

Chuck – Actually, the sad thing is ... naw. I'm pretty sure Buthayna Nasser can shoot lasers from her eyes.

Andrew – Effective indeed, and that wasn't even the whole interview.

Merks – It's odd how tolerance can so easily slip into legalism. I guess that's why Jesus said to love our neighbours – merely going through the motions of tolerance pales in comparison to the authenticity of love.
p.s. Try to keep it shorter next time ..... hehehe!

Gone! I wonder if the news item expired, or if it was removed by an oppressive force.
